Here are some fun facts to share with your little ones as they color:

  • Rhinos are some of the largest land animals in the world, with some species weighing up to 5,500 pounds! Despite their massive size, rhinos are herbivores, and subsist primarily on grasses, leaves, and fruits.
  • There are five species of rhino in the world: the white rhino, the black rhino, the Indian rhino, the Javan rhino, and the Sumatran rhino. Sadly, all five species are considered to be endangered, with some facing the risk of extinction.
  • One of the main threats to rhinos is poaching, or the illegal killing of animals for their horns. Rhino horns are highly prized in some cultures for their supposed medicinal properties, despite the fact that they are made of the same material as human hair and nails.
  • Another threat to rhinos is habitat loss, as human development and climate change continue to encroach on their natural habitats. Conservation efforts are underway to protect and restore rhino habitats, as well as to crack down on poaching and other illegal activities.
  • Rhinos have a unique appearance, with their thick, armored skin and prominent horns. Despite their tough exterior, however, rhinos are also known for their gentle and social nature, often forming close bonds with other members of their herd.
