Since 1856, the name Baphomet has been connected to the “Sabbatic Goat” image created by Éliphas Lévi, which consists of binary elements symbolizing the “symbolization of the equilibrium of opposites”: half-human and half-animal, male and female, good and evil, etc. Lévi intended to use Baphomet to represent his ideal of perfect social order, and the name Baphomet has been connected to the concept.
