Ponyo recreates enormous tsunami waves when she first becomes human, and Ponyo is constantly seen running on them thanks to her magic. If you look closely, you can see Ponyo walking a little distance out of the house onto the water before she hurries outside with Sosuke to place the boat in the water later in the movie when Ponyo enlarges Sosuke’s boat. However, she doesn’t enter the water until after taking a few steps outside; this indicates that Ponyo’s magic is waning, as is further demonstrated later in the film.
