Here are some Frozen facts that you may not know:

  • Frozen was released in 2013 and grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
  • Frozen is the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
  • Frozen was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Snow Queen.”
  • Frozen won two Academy Awards, for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (“Let It Go”).
  • Frozen was the first Disney animated film to be released in 3D.
  • Frozen is set in the fictional kingdom of Arendelle, based in Norway.
  • Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff are the only characters who have speaking roles in Frozen. Olaf, the snowman, only has a few lines.
  • “Frozen” is derived from the Danish word “frost.” “Arrendelle” is a combination of the Norwegian words “ar” (snow) and “helle” (valley).
  • The original Frozen script called for Anna and Elsa to be played by live-action actresses, with their faces superimposed over CGI bodies. However, this idea was eventually scrapped. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel were cast as the voice actresses for Anna and Elsa, respectively. Bell had previously starred in another Disney animated film, Tangled (2010).
