The Heian Period’s Sakata Kintoki, also known as Kintaro, is a folk hero from a story. On Mount Ashigara, a mountain hag nurtured Kintaro, a child of superhuman power. Due to various circumstances, Kintaro acquired the samurai title of Sakata no Kintoki and joined Minamoto no Yorimitsu. On Boy’s Day, it’s customary to display a Kintaro doll in the hopes that young men may grow bold and resilient like Kintaro.
In response to an inquiry, Hideaki Sorachi clarified that he does not intend to make Gintoki a Kintaro descendent.
