Upon Paras’ back is a large red mushroom with yellow spots. The mushroom is Paras’ main source of food, and it also produces spores that have various effects when they come into contact with other Pokémon. Paras can also be found living on the backs of bigger Pokémon, such as Scyther and Pinsir.
Paras will try to latch onto any passing Pokémon in hopes of finding a suitable host; if none are available, it will starve to death. Paras can be found in grassy areas all over the world.

- Paras can only survive by leeching off of the energy of larger insects. If there are no insects around, Paras will eventually starve to death.
- The large red mushroom on Paras’ back is actually its main source of food. Paras gets all the nutrients it needs from the fungus, and in return, the fungus gets protection from predators.
- Paras evolves into Parasect at level 24.
- Paras is 2 feet tall and weighs 12 pounds.
- Paras can have one of two Abilities: Effect Spore, which has a 30% chance of Poisoning, Paralysis, or Sleeps when Paras comes into contact with an opponent; or Dry Skin, which restores Paras’ HP when raining and makes it take more damage from Fire-type moves. Paras’ Hidden Ability is Damp, which prevents self-destructive moves from working.
