Did you know that the Spirits Come from Shinto Gods?
Although Japan is said to be 99% atheist, Shintoism is the country’s oldest religion. Shintoism established the foundation for a great deal of the country’s culture, architecture, clothing, and arts, all of which are still used and celebrated today. Numerous thousands of kami (gods) who are all intrinsically connected to nature make up the pantheon of the religion. The kami in Princess Mononoke include the wolf god Moro, the forest spirit/deer spirit, the boar deity Nago, and the previously mentioned Kodama. All of these kami are of Shinto origin.
