Smoochum is a dual-type Ice and Psychic baby Pokemon introduced in Generation II. Smoochum is a baby ice-type Pokémon. It is one of the few Pokémon that can learn the move “Lovely Kiss”. Smoochum has red lips and Heart-shaped bottom.
Smoochum loves cold things and can be often found with an ice cream in its hand. Smoochum’s main method of locomotion is hopping on one foot. Smoochum evolves into Jynx at level 30. Smoochum is one of the rarest and most valuable Pokémon due to its low catch rate and the fact that it can only be found in the wild during winter.
Smoochum is also one of the oldest Pokémon, having been around since the days of Red and Blue. Smoochum may be based on ganguro, blonde-haired, tanned Japanese girls, but is meant to resemble an otherwise normal human child. Yuki-onna, a possible origin for Jynx, is sometimes shown as holding a seemingly human child.
Smoochum could also be based on the legend of Kintarō, a human child raised by the Yama-uba, another possible origin of Jynx. Smoochum may be derived from smooch (a kiss) and possibly chum (friend). It may also be a pun on “smooch ’em.”
Smoochum debuted in Pikachu & Pichu as one of the best friends of the Pichu Brothers. She made further appearances in Trouble in Big Town, Of Meowth and Pokémon, Big Meowth, Little Dreams, and Pichu Bros. in Party Panic. She also made a brief cameo appearance in Giratina and the Sky Warrior.
