Did you know Zoro’s appearance has changed quite a bit since his debut in 1997? He returned with a fresh appearance after the two-year time jump in the plot. Sadly, there were a few instances when his look contained sporadic continuity mistakes.
The scar he sustained during the time skip first appears above his right eye in the Jump edition of chapter 598. Eiichiro Oda, the author of the manga, acknowledged this was a mistake in the subsequent chapter. He makes another mistake in chapter 698 when his recognizable scar is changed to another one. He has an X-shaped burn scar, similar to Luffy, rather than a stitched diagonal scar. Later, this error was fixed in manga volume 70.
