Did you know that Baki The Grappler was created by Paru Itagaki’s father?
Manga readers used to jokingly claim that Paru Itagaki was the child of Keisuke Itagaki, the author of the popular martial arts comic Baki the Grappler. Their last names plus the fact that Paru never verified or denied it led to the rumors. This changed when Paru casually disclosed that Keisuke was truly her father in September 2019.
It seems sensible that Itagaki kept this relationship a secret; she intended to do so until she had established herself as an author, to avoid being accused of nepotism and stepping into the shadow of her famous father. She was already a well-known mangaka and Beastars was at its peak of success when she revealed her parentage.
